Video Art Miden collaborates with “Frontpage Project”, an exhibition on “the Art of News” that takes place at the “Melina Mercouri” Cultural Center (Athens, GR), from 7 to 11 June 2023.

It is an art exhibition but also a journalistic “intervention”, around the central idea of the “first page”, the “first news”, in print and electronic media. The artistic / dynamic goal is the interaction and collaboration of creators whith origins in the fields of visual arts, journalism and communication in general.

The European Communication Institute (ECI) is responsible for the event, in collaboration with the Athens/Macedonian News Agency (AMNA and the open art group “AxionArt” and in collaboration with Video Art Festival “Miden”, while communication sponsors are CultureNow.gr and the Time Machine.

It is supported by the Municipality of Athens, the Botsis Foundation and academic institutions, including the Donau-Universitat Krems University (DUK), where the second part of the initiative will be implemented (Vienna), with artists and communicators from Greece and Central Europe.

The creators are inspired by newspaper headlines (and not only) that they will choose themselves as well as by prominent news coming from the media, the international and Greek printed, audiovisual and electronic press. These “headlines” are a canvas for their creation, commentary, expression and placement.

The topics developed have a referential and conceptual approach regarding the transmission of the message, the news as a concept (performance), the writing, the text, the words.

More specifically, the report is developed along five main axes: Timeliness – Communication – Image – Word – Memory and will include artworks by already recognized and new artists, photographers, photo reporters, as well as mixed works using “speech” or multimedia by journalists and communicators from the field of Mass Media.

During the exhibition there will also be parallel activities: Video art screenings, performances, interviews with media personalities, lectures and presentations of research work, actions on the internet and social media.

The projects will be posted on the internet, on a special page, as well as on the website of “AxionArt” and ECI.

The exhibition in Athens will be the precursor to the next stage of the initiative, which concerns the participation of Creators and Communicators from Central Europe, as above, and will be hosted in Vienna in 2024.
