Video Art Miden screenings @ Museum of Contemporary Art, Florina (GR)

Video Art Miden in collaboration with Florina Art Friends Society participates in the “Art Summer 2026” events of the Municipality of Florina, presenting a 2-day video art screening program at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Florina, on August 17 – 18, 2026. Curated by Tatiana Altini, the event presents selected thematic sections from the Greek and international video art scene, exploring the medium’s contemporary ideas, forms, and trends.

Through the thematic and aesthetic diversity of the works, the focus shifts to the contemporary human experience and the multiple facets of reality as captured and transformed through the moving image. The screenings are organized into thematic sections curated by the Video Art Miden team; each highlights distinct themes, exploring concepts such as memory, the body, movement, desires, dreams, and a reality that is often harsh and threatening.

Video Art Miden is one of the first specialized international video art festivals in Greece. Active since 2005, it continues its work through a flexible and expanded program of screenings and events—both in Greece and abroad—creating platforms for presentation and dialogue that encourage original audiovisual creation, foster research, and connect the public with contemporary artistic practices.

This selection brings together eleven videos that navigate between imaginary ecosystems, digital cosmologies, social bodies, and techno-dystopian narratives. Overall, the emphasis is on moments of instability: where a world, a body, or a system “slips” and its coordinates begin to shift.

A selection that brings together different versions of narration, with a variety of colors, timbre of voice, movement of bodies and images, but mainly with different content, sometimes confessional, sometimes poetic and beautiful.

Ten works moving between landscape and personal space, between nature and human presence. Images, gestures, memories, and subtle shifts in time come together in a body of work where each video functions as an autonomous fragment, a brief experience that disappears, returns, and transforms. From the movement of water and wind to interior spaces, everyday rituals, and people’s narratives, the works are connected through the sense of time flowing and reshaping images, spaces, and memories.

“Hide and Seek” brings together video works that explore visibility, disappearance, exposure, and concealment, transformation and illusion, the real and the imaginary. Through elements of revealing and withholding, the program considers how bodies, memories, identities, concepts and landscapes are continuously negotiated between presence and absence. The selected works move through intimate, social, political, conceptual and poetic territories where what is hidden becomes as significant as what is shown.

“Who was Here?” is an experimental micro-historical documentary that delves into the processing of personal archives and testimonies assisted – during different stages of the production – by artificial intelligence tools and softwares. Having trained an AI program with transcribed interviews and archival material from her father’s childhood and adolescence—a period that coincided with the rise of the Greek military junta—the director starts a conversation with the language model, as she is looking for help in her attempt to fill the gaps and inconsistencies she has detected in her family history. The unpredictable turns in their dialogue will paint in an even clearer light the fragile nature of historical truth and highlight the new threats that this notion is facing in the post-human technological age. “Who was Here?” is a film about memory, the transmission of generational trauma, and microhistorical narratives in the artificial intelligence era.
